Puck

I couldn’t tell you why, but Puck and his companions have been roaming around in my brain for the last week or so. The far off giggle of a hidden sprite seems to be always just on the edge of my hearing. Heather Alexander’s Midsummer http://www.heatherlands.com has been on the stereo most of the week, coupled with the rest of her cd’s. I’m not sure why this reawakening in the fay is happening, maybe its time for me to shake loose a little from the serious side of most of my life. Time to interject a little whimsy, time to walk away from the modern and delve into the past and the almost past. I wrote the following a few years ago, but as I keep mumbling it to myself, I figure I might as well post it here.

Under-mutters
(Or, what Puck really wanted to say)

If We Shadows Have Offended…..

As we planned and so intended,

Think But This and All Is Mended…..

Since our jokes have all been ended.
Drugged and dosed, we dragged you near,
Made our games out of your fear.
My Lord plotted out the scene,
And Left to me the way and mean.
Humans cannot comprehend,
Games with Fairies never end.
With mortal lives we run amok,
Betting all - to own their luck.
But now my master cries “Enough”
He says my games have grown too rough.
Now this Puck must unspell all,
Release the toys he did enthrall.
Give me grace, for he intends,
All leave this Grove, loving friends!
